Hannah & Jonathan | Charlotte Couples Photography at Lake Norman

This session will always hold a special place in my heart because it wasn’t just any couple in front of my camera, it was my son Jonathan and his sweet girlfriend, Hannah.

They’ve talked about doing photos for a while, and with both of their birthdays in August, it felt like the perfect time. Now that I’m officially offering couples photography here in Charlotte, I thought… what better way to celebrate than with a shoot by the water at Lake Norman, a spot that’s meaningful to them? They love kayaking and spending time by the lake, so it was the perfect backdrop for their story.

What I love most is that they went through the process just like any of my clients do. They filled out a short questionnaire, received the style guide, and we planned outfits together (though I admit, I had a little extra fun directing my son’s choices in wardrobe!). Hannah dove right into the styling process and it showed, they looked incredible!

During the session, I took off my “mom hat” and slipped fully into photographer mode. We laughed, we posed, we played with movement by the water. At one point Hannah turned to me and said she wanted to do this every time she had a bad day at work because it was such an ego boost. That’s exactly what I hope every couple feels during an engagement session or couples shoot: empowered, seen, and celebrated.

Because at the end of the day, this isn’t just about photos. It’s about capturing your story, the laughter, the connection, and the season you’re living in right now. Years from now, I want Hannah and Jonathan to look back and remember not only how they looked, but how it felt to be fully present in that moment together.
